Opened in the early 1960's by World War II Veteran and entrepreneur Tony Sanchez, the little bar on the corner quickly became an Ysleta - then a Lower Valley - landmark thanks in great part to the name and original sign.
Sanchez fabricated the original 'Atomic Bar' Sign, and then had a local company add the neon light to it. Once powered up, the sign could be seen for miles, up and down Alameda Avenue. Tony himself repaired the sign countless times over the next 30-plus years, always repainting and sealing his pride and joy.
Attached to the vibrant green building, itself trimmed in green neon, the red and white sign greeted residents and motorist alike until the bar was shut down in the mid-1990's due to Tony's declining health.
